NCS Color Book

The Natural Color System (NCS) is the leading international standard for color specification and communication created by the Scandinavian Colour Institute in 1946. Used by thousands of designers and manufacturers throughout the world, NCS tools offer the most complete and accurate range of color tools available. Over the past five years, NCS and Hunter Douglas have worked together to create color tools that give the design community more flexibility and control. Since then, we have worked closely to develop a powerful color system for textile design that has none of the gaps found in other systems. We also created a line of over 150 Richmond fabrics that can be custom-colored in days, not weeks, using two key tools:

  • The Richmond Natural Color Book, a precision-calibrated color reference printed on Avora fabric that allows designers to specify with confidence.
  • An online fabric-design tool, Richmond ColorStudio, that gives designers direct access to all the features of leading digital-coloring software, and includes all the NCS colors in our textile system.

The tools we developed with NCS ensure accurate color specification from computer monitor, to printer, to finished fabric. We are now working with several other leading vendors to extend these tools to other components of room design.
